Every June at the Left Bank Maurice Kahn Gallery, we do a show inspired by Shirley Jackson. In the past we have taken our inspiration from specific passages, characters or titles. For this year's Shirley Jackson Tribute, each artist was asked to draw two cards from the BICYCLE BIG BOX GROS BOITE Deck.

Artists were asked to draw inspiration from the cards they pulled.

 Cards, literally figure into Shirley's work from characters playing Solitaire and tarot (Hangsaman) and Bridge (The Bridge Game and Memory and Delusion), to her personal enthusiasm for her own bridge and poker games, not to mention other obvious themes relating to her work: magic, divination, luck and games of chance, skill, rules and rituals. Artists were also asked to consider the many meanings of the word Draw.( of which, the verb, has 42 meanings!)

Welcome to Shirley Jackson Day 2026, the 20th consecutive celebration of the North Bennington author's life and work. This is a free event and all are welcome. The library will also broadcast a livestream of this event at 7:00 PM.

​​

ART RECEPTION from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with musical accompaniment by JESTER FRETLESS.

​​

The literary portion of the evening will begin at 7:00 PM and will feature readings of Jackson's work by two of her children: Jai Holly and Barry Hyman. Authors Genevieve Plunkett and GennaRose Nethercott will also read.
