An evolving installation by Fourth Pig Farm (Andrew Hamilton Reiss)
On view till April 30th

n the show, "Surf's Up", you'll see paintings, ceramics, papier mâché, chickens, fish, things made with recycled materials, and prints. We turned paper plates into jellyfish and chickens. We used shredded documents from the office to make our own paper clay and utilized egg cartons and plaster of Paris to make fish that move. We tried new techniques for acrylic paint pours. Sixth graders designed their own independent projects based on what they were interested in. Second Graders wrote a book. Fourth graders learned some techniques for painting formal portraits. We carved our own printing blocks and made prints. Fifth Graders made plywood fish and Third Graders used the scraps to make their own sculptures. Pre-k students learned that elephants sometimes turn out to be giraffes and tanks can feature laser pointers for cats.

Shirley Jackson Foundation tribute with readings from Shirley Jackson's children at 7pm
This year’s Shirley Jackson tribute show takes its title from the opening of Shirley Jackson’s lecture, “Memory and Delusion” Included in the 2016 publication “Let Me Tell You: New Stories, Essays and Other Writings"
In this lecture/essay, she talks about her particular creative process that is enmeshed with her everyday life. She describes her use of delusional “stories“ that make the mundane bearable. Odd memory effects and the idea that “Nothing is ever useless and certainly is never lost.”
We are showcasing works inspired by the secret lives of inanimate objects. Works that celebrate playful oddness. Unproven theories on the nature of electricity, Elaborate fantasies and “Odd memory effects” abound.

Sculptural Shenanigans

Please join us at the Left Bank, Maurice Kahn Gallery at 5pm, August 1st, for the reception of
Sculptural Shenanigans: an exhibition of drawings by a diverse group of sculptors.
Sculptors make drawings for a range of reasons, they can be a projection of a sculptural idea, or they can be exploratory.
Sculptors' drawings can exist in a separate space, what can be best described as on a tangent to the various parts of a sculptor’s practice and can be closely aligned with the artist’s identity. In some cases, they are direct, fluid and fragmented.
The intention of making a drawing is complex and perhaps the mark on paper leads as much as it led, some artists have a preconceived idea, while others might just have a hunch, developing the work organically, ultimately the results have varying amounts of intention, pragmatism, accident and ambition.
